Joy Chakma is a gentle and innocent 9-month-old baby boy from the indigenous Chakma community in the remote hills of Bandarban, where he lives with his parents and three siblings in a modest bamboo and tin house. His father, the only earning member, works as a rented autorickshaw driver with an irregular and very limited income, making it impossible for the family to afford costly medical care. As Joy’s cough and fever worsened into severe breathing difficulty, his fragile condition became critical, leaving the family deeply worried and helpless due to the lack of nearby healthcare facilities. They came to know about Helpster Charity through a volunteer, Ahammad Ali Azad, and sought urgent support. Without timely treatment, his condition could rapidly deteriorate, leading to severe breathing failure and life-threatening complications, making immediate care essential for his survival.

Joy Chakma, a 9-month-old infant, was admitted on 30.03.2026 to Orion Hospital with complaints of severe cough with difficulty breathing, high-grade fever for seven days, along with reduced feeding and irritability. The patient was admitted through Helpster volunteer Ahammod Ali Azad at Orion Hospital, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. On admission, detailed clinical evaluation and necessary investigations were conducted. The patient was diagnosed with Severe Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) with hypoxemia. He was managed with hospitalization under close monitoring, including oxygen therapy for hypoxemia, appropriate pharmacological treatment, correction of fluids and electrolytes, and adequate nutritional support to ensure recovery. The patient remained hospitalized for a total of seven days and was discharged on 06.04.2026 in stable condition with proper medical advice and follow-up instructions. The treatment expenses were fully supported by Helpster Charity, and the family expresses sincere gratitude to Helpster, its volunteers, and the hospital team for their kind support and care.

Doctors have have advised immediate hospital-based treatment including oxygen support, antibiotics, fever control, and close monitoring to stabilize his condition. With timely and proper medical care, there is a strong chance of recovery, and he can gradually return to normal health as the infection clears and breathing improves. However, if left untreated, the infection may rapidly worsen, leading to severe breathing failure, spread of infection in the body, and life-threatening complications, which may even result in death.
