Acute malaria is a sudden and severe onset of illness caused by Plasmodium parasites transmitted through mosquito bites. It typically starts with intense flu-like symptoms, including high-grade fever, drenching sweats, and extreme body aches. If the infection is not treated immediately, it can rapidly progress to life-threatening complications like cerebral malaria, which causes seizures or coma. Other dangerous outcomes include severe anemia, kidney failure, and respiratory distress, all of which require emergency hospital care to prevent death.

Background
One-year-old Abubakar is a bright and observant boy who is just beginning to enthusiastically explore the world around him. He is naturally curious, finding joy in shaking toys to hear their sounds and studying how different objects move through touch and sight. While he expresses himself through smiles and gestures rather than words, he already shows a warm personality that shines when he is around his family. Abubakar Umar developed a high-grade fever, chills, headache, loss of appetite, vomiting, and lethargy over 3 days. His parents noticed he became less active than usual. Medical evaluation confirmed acute malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum. He currently shows mild anemia and moderate illness but is receiving antimalarial treatment, hydration, and supportive care, with close monitoring for improvement and possible complications.
Medical history
Abubakar, a 1-year-old boy, was admitted on 27/03/2026 with malaria. He received antimalarial therapy, intravenous fluids, antipyretics, and supportive care while his vital signs and overall condition were closely monitored. After three days in the hospital, Abubakar was discharged on 30/03/2026 in stable condition. His fever resolved, he regained his strength, and he recovered well without complications. Prognosis
Abubakar Umar has acute malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum. He presented with high fever, chills, headache, vomiting, loss of appetite, and lethargy. He also shows mild anemia. The condition is being managed with antimalarial therapy, supportive care, and close monitoring to prevent complications. If treated promptly with antimalarial therapy and supportive care, Abubakar is expected to recover fully with no lasting effects. If left untreated, his malaria could worsen, leading to severe complications such as high fever, severe anemia, organ failure, or even death. Early treatment is critical for a safe recovery.
