Acute appendicitis is a rapid, painful inflammation of the appendix that typically begins as a vague discomfort near the navel before localizing into severe pain in the lower right abdomen. This condition constitutes a surgical emergency where a blockage causes bacteria to multiply rapidly, leading to swelling, ischemia, and pus accumulation within the organ. If left untreated, the primary complication is a ruptured appendix, which can spill infectious material into the abdominal cavity to cause life-threatening peritonitis or systemic sepsis.

Background
Fatima Suleiman is a 14-year-old girl from a low-income family earning about ₦13,000 monthly, living in poor conditions and relying on community borehole water. She is gentle, hardworking, and hopeful despite her circumstances. She loves reading, helping with household chores, and playing with friends. Fatima dreams of becoming a healthcare worker. Fatima Suleiman, a 14-year-old girl, developed abdominal pain about five days ago, which initially started around the navel and later moved to the right lower part of her abdomen. The pain became sharp, constant, and worsened with movement. She also experienced nausea, one episode of vomiting, loss of appetite, and low-grade fever. On examination and investigations, she was diagnosed with Acute appendicitis. Currently, she is in moderate discomfort and requires urgent surgical treatment (appendectomy) to prevent complications, . However, her family cannot afford the cost of treatment, waiting for Helpster Charity Foundation to approve.
Medical history
Fatima, a 14-year-old girl, was admitted on 17/04/2026 with acute appendicitis and underwent a successful emergency appendectomy. She received appropriate postoperative care, pain management, intravenous fluids, and close medical monitoring. After five days in the hospital, Fatima recovered well. Her abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting resolved, and she was discharged home in good condition, able to resume her normal daily activities without pain. Prognosis
Fatima Suleiman, a 14-year-old child, is suffering from acute appendicitis, with severe significant discomfort, including sharp and persistent abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and mild fever. Fatima requires prompt surgical treatment (appendectomy). Prognosis - with timely treatment (appendectomy), Fatima is expected to make a full recovery and return to her normal life, including the . The surgery is highly effective when done early. However, if left untreated, acute appendicitis can worsen and lead to rupture of the appendix. This can cause a serious infection in the abdomen (peritonitis), which is life-threatening and may result in prolonged hospitalization, complications, or even death.
