Yusuf Umar is a 4-year-old boy from a very low-income family earning about ₦16,000 monthly, with his mother running a small petty trading business. The family lives in difficult conditions and struggles to afford basic needs, including healthcare. Yusuf is a cheerful, playful, and energetic child when healthy. They dream of him becoming educated and successful in life. Due to their poor financial situation, the family is unable to fully cover his medical expenses and are therefore requesting assistance from Helpster. Yusuf Umar, a 4-year-old boy, developed a sudden onset of high-grade fever about four days ago, which was accompanied by chills, rigors, headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and marked body weakness. The illness started abruptly and progressively worsened, making him increasingly weak and lethargic. He was brought to the hospital where examination and laboratory tests confirmed a diagnosis of severe malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum. He also showed signs of mild liver and spleen enlargement. Currently, Yusuf is admitted and receiving treatment for severe malaria.

Yusuf, a 4-year-old boy, was admitted on 17/04/2026 with severe malaria. He received antimalarial medications, intravenous fluids, antipyretics, supportive care, and close medical monitoring. After three days in the hospital, Yusuf responded well to treatment. His fever subsided, his appetite returned, and he gradually regained his strength. Yusuf presented with severe malaria and is clinically unwell, having fever, vomiting, weakness - had to be admitted for immediate treatment. Severe malaria in a child as young as Yusuf can result in very serious complications such as cerebral malaria, anemia, respiratory distress, multiorgan failure, and in worse cases death. It is very important for us to immediately admit and treat because it is an emergency. Prognosis - clinical outcome for this child depends on how fast treatment commences, and how soon or fast complications are prevented or identified. It is often good if there are no complications.
