Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About urology

An inguino-scrotal hernia occurs when abdominal contents protrude through a weak inguinal canal into the scrotum. Increased intra-abdominal pressure contributes to herniation through a congenital or acquired weakness. Over time, the hernia enlarges and may become irreducible or strangulated. This condition requires surgical repair to prevent complications.

Background

Usman Bashir comes from a low-income rural household with significant financial hardship. His father is a commercial motorcycle rider earning less than 23,000 naira monthly, while his mother is a full time house wife.He is the second born in the family of 6. He is generally active, playful, and assists his family with minor errands after school. Usman enjoys football and spending time with peers in his community. Usman was referred to Helpster for free medical care after noticing a growing swelling in his groin that appeared after heavy lifting months ago. The swelling gradually became more painful and prominent when he stood up or coughed, making daily life increasingly uncomfortable. Because his family could not afford the cost of hospital care, they had to delay treatment until the pain became too much to ignore. Doctors have now diagnosed him with a right inguinoscrotal hernia and scheduled surgery to prevent dangerous complications like the blockage of blood flow to his organs.

Medical history

USMAN, a 14-year-old male, presented with a 3-year history of reducible right groin swelling, which gradually increased in size and occasionally accompanied by pain. After thorough evaluation, he was diagnosed with right inguinoscrotal hernia. He underwent successful hernial repair surgery without immediate complications. Following a 3-day hospital stay for close monitoring and post-operative care, Usman recovered well and was discharged home with a scheduled follow-up appointment for 1 week. He has since fully recovered and resumed regular activities. We appreciate the timely intervention by Helpster and the UMD Medical team.

Prognosis

He was seen and evaluated, confirmed a right reducible inguino-scrotal hernia (reducible).Though patient experiences occasional pain in his groin especially when the hernia got trapped and symptoms relieved with painkiller. The most dangerous complication occurs when the hernia becomes trapped and its blood supply is cut off, leading to rapid tissue death and a life-threatening infection. Opinion: His case requires urgent surgical repair and early intervention is recommended to prevent incarceration or strangulation. The patient is considered fit for surgery pending financial assistance. He is expected to have good Prognosis as he is medically free and Hernial repair is a minor surgery.
