Aisha U., 5

Aisha is a 5-year-old girl from a very poor household. Her parents are unemployed casual labourers who survive on irregular income of less than 23,000 naira monthly. The family are internally displaced persons and depend largely on humanitarian assistance for food and basic needs. She was referred to the hospital by their community leader, who had previously directed other families to seek help from Helpster Charity. She developed difficulty passing urine, left flank pain, and intermittent abdominal pain, with reduced urine output and occasional blood-tinged urine. Because of financial constraints, her parents delayed seeking medical care until the symptoms worsened. At UMD, she was evaluated and diagnosed with nephrolithiasis and is planned for elective surgery pending approval from Helpster Charity. She has been started on medication and advised to increase her fluid intake while awaiting support for treatment.

AISHA,a 5-year-old female, presented with a history of flank pain,lower back pain, accompanied by vomiting,after thorough evaluation and investigation, she was diagnosed with kidney stone. She underwent successful Nephrolithotomy surgery without immediate complications. Due to the nature of her condition, she was admitted for 3 days for close monitoring and post-operative care. Aisha, recovered well and was discharged home after 3 days, with a follow-up appointment scheduled for 1 week. Currently, she is doing well, has fully recovered, and has resumed her regular activities. We appreciate the timely intervention by Helpster and the UMD Medical team.

She was brought to UMD with pain due to decreased urine output.She was evaluated and diagnosed with Nephrolithiasis(kidney stone). Opinion: Planned for surgery because the stone is too large to pass through the urine outlet. Prognosis: The child is expected to have good prognosis if the surgery is done within shortest possible time to avert potential complications.
