Ibrahim, a 9 year old boy from a very poor family, relies on his parents monthly income of approximately 22,000 naira. He assist his mother with house chores. Despite the challenges, Ibrahim is a playful and active child who enjoys football and outdoor games in school. As the first child among his 4 siblings, he is survived by his parents and aspires to become a professional footballer when he grows up. He was referred from a nearby Primary Health Care by a health care worker who knew about Helpster charity foundation. Ibrahim presented with the history of right flank pain, difficulty passing urine, and occasional fever. He also reported to his Parents that he had reduced appetite. Due to financial constraints, they delayed hospital presentation. They tried traditional medicine at home with some over the counter medication but symptoms persisted. At UMD, he was diagnosed of Nephrolithiasis and planned for elective surgery upon approval by Helpster charity.

IBRAHIM,a 9-year-old male, was referred to our facility with a kidney stone. After thorough evaluation and investigation, he underwent elective nephrolithotomy. The surgery was successful without immediate complications. Due to the nature of his condition, he was admitted for 5 days for close monitoring and treatment.Ibrahim, recovered well and was discharged home after 5 days, with follow-up care scheduled for 1 week. Currently, the patient is doing well, has recovered, and has resumed regular activities at home. We appreciate the timely intervention by Helpster and the UMD medical.

Patient was seen, evaluated and diagnosed with Nephrolithiasis. He has been experiencing mild to moderate pain for a long time, which subsides with pain medication. Severe complications such as permanent kidney damage from chronic obstruction, life-threatening systemic infections, and the complete loss of organ function. Planned to proceed with elective surgery because the size of the stone is very large and cannot pass through the urine outlet. Currently, he is being managed with pain killers, antibiotics, and encouraged to take adequate fluids. Patient is expected to have a successful surgery without complications, given the absence of co-morbidities. This will improve his well-being and bring relief to him and his parents.
