Ibrahim Ali is a 16 year old adolescent from a financially disadvantaged family with limited access to healthcare facilities. His father is a hunter but cannot go out to the bush because of the recent incessant activities of insurgents engulfing the area, however, struggles to make ends meet with monthly income 23,000 naira. Ibrahim is a student and generally active and dreams to become a civil engineer. He was apparently well until three days ago when he developed sudden onset of abdominal pain, initially around the umbilical region, which he ignored. Over the next 24–48 hours, the pain migrated to the right lower abdomen and became more severe and constant accompanied with fever, and vomiting. He became increasingly weak and unable to carry out daily activities. As symptoms worsened significantly, the family sought medical attention of Helpster charity foundation in UMD. He was attended to by the Doctor, subjected to various investigation and was diagnosed with Acute appendicitis. He was quickly prepared and operated as emergency appendectomy.

Ibrahim a 16 year-old boy, presented with a sudden onset of right lower abdominal pain, nausea, accompanied by vomiting, fever and he became very uncomfortable for the past 24 hours After thorough evaluation and investigation, he was diagnosed with Acute appendicitis. He underwent successful Appendectomy surgery without immediate complications. Due to the nature of his condition, he was admitted for 3 days for close monitoring and post-operative care.He recovered well and was discharged home after 3 days, with a follow-up appointment scheduled for 1 week. Currently, he is doing well, has fully recovered, and has resumed his regular activities. We appreciate the timely intervention by Helpster and the UMD Medical team.

The patient will be admitted for emergency surgery followed by post-operative treatment with antibiotics, painkillers, and fluid hydration to avert potential complications, as the case is in an acute stage. If left untreated, the condition may progress and lead to appendix rupture, sepsis, and peritonitis. The prognosis is good with an expected successful surgery, and the patient can be discharged within 72 hours post-operatively. This treatment will relieve his symptoms, give him a second chance at life, and bring great relief to his parents.
