Tanni has been diagnosed with Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) with severe dehydration along with dengue fever. Acute watery diarrhea is a condition characterized by sudden onset of frequent loose or watery stools, leading to significant fluid loss. Severe dehydration occurs when the body loses excessive fluids and electrolytes, resulting in weakness, lethargy, and potential complications if not treated promptly. Dengue fever is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes, causing high fever, body pain, and weakness, which can further worsen the patient’s condition.

Background
Sufia Sultana Tanni is a kind and caring 8-year-old girl who lives with her parents and siblings in a small makeshift shelter where her father works as a rickshaw puller with irregular income. When Tanni suddenly became seriously ill with severe diarrhea, high fever, dehydration, weakness, and severe abdominal pain, her terrified family watched helplessly as she cried continuously and became weaker with every passing hour. After learning about Helpster Charity through volunteer Yunus, the family sought urgent medical support for her treatment and care. Without urgent treatment and close medical monitoring, her condition may rapidly worsen and lead to severe dehydration, shock, organ complications, and life-threatening consequences.
Medical history
Tanni, an 8-year-old child, was admitted to Orion Hospital on 10.04.2026 through Helpster volunteer Abu Sayeed with severe watery diarrhea, high fever, dehydration, weakness, and severe abdominal pain. After medical evaluation, doctors diagnosed her with Acute Severe Watery Diarrhea with Severe Dehydration along with Dengue Fever. She received urgent hospitalization, intravenous fluids, medicines, close monitoring, and supportive treatment for four days. With timely medical care and support from Helpster Charity, her condition gradually improved, and she was discharged in stable condition on 15.04.2026 with medications and follow-up advice. Her family expressed sincere gratitude to Helpster Charity, its volunteers, and the hospital team for saving her life.
Prognosis
With immediate hospitalization and proper treatment, including fluid and electrolyte correction, the child’s condition is expected to improve significantly, with stabilization of hydration status and reduction of symptoms. Continuous monitoring and supportive care will help manage fever, pain, and prevent further complications related to both diarrhea and dengue fever. Early intervention greatly reduces the risk of life-threatening outcomes and supports a full recovery. However, if left untreated, severe dehydration can lead to shock, organ failure, and even death. Additionally, untreated dengue infection may progress to more serious forms, increasing the risk of bleeding complications and further deterioration of the child’s condition
