Mrs. Afsana Mimi is a 38-week pregnant woman, gravida 2, who presented with a breech presentation a condition in which the fetus is positioned in the uterus with its buttocks or feet pointing downward instead of the usual head-down position. Due to this complication, the fetus is at risk of developing fetal distress, umbilical cord prolapse, birth trauma such as brachial plexus injury, and head entrapment, requiring immediate medical intervention to ensure the safety of both the mother and the baby.

Background
Mrs. Afsana Mimi is a calm and hardworking 25-year-old woman living in a fragile camp with her husband, young sister-in-law, and elderly mother-in-law, where daily life is marked by financial hardship. Her husband, Murad Ashrafi, earns only around 6,000 BDT per month as a day laborer, which is barely enough to support the family, making medical treatment unaffordable. Despite losing her first baby, Mimi remains strong and hopeful, dreaming of a safe delivery and a healthy child. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a surgeon, which gave them a chance to seek help during this critical time. Without timely treatment, her breech pregnancy with anemia could become life-threatening, leading to serious complications during delivery and putting both mother and baby at great risk.
Medical history
Mrs. Afsana Mimi was admitted at 38 weeks of pregnancy with a breech presentation on 26.03.2026. On the same day, she underwent a Lower Uterine Cesarean Section (LUCS) under spinal anesthesia. The surgery was performed successfully, and a healthy baby was delivered safely. Following the operation, she received proper medical management, including postoperative monitoring, pain management, antibiotics, and supportive nursing care. Her condition gradually improved with continuous observation and attentive care. Both the mother and the baby remained stable and showed good recovery progress. She was discharged on 29.03.2026 in a well and secure condition, with advice for follow-up and postnatal care at home.
Prognosis
The recommended treatment for her is LUCS under SAB, which is the safest option to deliver the baby immediately and prevent further complications. With timely surgery, the baby is expected to recover well and lead a healthy life. However, if the delivery is delayed or left untreated, the baby may suffer from oxygen deprivation leading to permanent brain damage or even death, and the mother may also face life-threatening infections or complications.
