Severe malaria is a life-threatening medical emergency where the Plasmodium falciparum parasite causes critical complications like cerebral malaria, respiratory distress, or organ failure, requiring immediate hospitalization and intravenous treatment. Acute bacterial meningitis is a rapidly progressing, life-threatening infection of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord that causes intense inflammation, potentially leading to permanent brain damage, hearing loss, or death within hours if not treated with emergency antibiotics.

Abdulhamid Rabiu is a 6-year-old boy from a family of five. He is active and enjoys eating and playing, but due to his illness caused by severe malaria and acute bacterial meningitis, he has been unable to do so. He lives with his hardworking mother who is the sole provider of the house after her husband death three years ago, she works as a house cleaner in a households located about five kilometers away from their residence which earns her a monthly income of ₦10,000. The family lives in mud house and were unable to afford any medical bills and other necessary healthcare expenses. Abdulhamid Rabiu is a 6-year-old boy from a family of five. He is naturally active and enjoys eating and playing, but his illness caused by severe malaria and acute bacterial meningitis makes him unable to carry out normal activity. He lives with his hardworking mother who works as a house cleaner in a households located about five kilometers away from their home. Her work earns her a monthly income of ₦10,000, which makes the family unable to afford medical bills and other necessary healthcare expenses. The family heard about Helpster charity through flyers and contacted Mustapha Tijjani for urgent medical support. Diagnosis of severe malaria and acute bacterial meningitis.
Medical history
Abdulhamid Rabiu was treated for Severe Malaria and Acute Bacterial Meningitis after his family sought help from Helpster Charity Organization. He was admitted for eight days, during which he received proper medical care. His condition improved, and he is now stable and gradually recovering his strength.
Prognosis
The child is in critical condition with a diagnosed Severe Malaria and Acute Bacterial Meningitis, unconscious with (GCS 8/15), and doctors are urgently working to control seizures, stabilize the brain, and treat the infection. He presented with repeated seizures, loss of consciousness (GCS 8/15), and signs of irritation of the brain and spinal cord coverings. He is currently receiving urgent treatment and close monitoring in the hospital. Prognosis With proper treatment, regular medical follow-up, and prevention of Malaria and Acute Bacterial Meningitis, the patient’s condition can be managed and recovery from the current crisis is expected. However, continued care and preventive measures remain very important.
