Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Aklima Akter, a 30-year-old pregnant woman, lives with her husband, three young sons, and elderly mother-in-law in a low-income household where her husband earns only 8,000 BDT per month as a rickshaw puller, making it difficult to meet daily needs and impossible to afford medical expenses. She is a caring and responsible mother who dreams of a safe delivery and a healthy future for her children. At 39+ weeks of pregnancy, she developed leakage of fluid and was diagnosed with severe oligohydramnios, requiring an urgent caesarean section. However, due to financial hardship, her family cannot afford the cost of the operation. They learned about Helpster Charity through their community, as without timely treatment, her condition may lead to serious complications, putting both her life and her unborn baby’s life at risk.

Medical history

After experiencing, passage of gush of water and leaky membrane for 2 days , she arrived at our hospital at 1.00PM in 4th January 2026 and doctors performed an ultrasound that revealed amniotic fluid is very low with fetal distress , making vaginal delivery impossible. An emergency cesarean section was promptly arranged, and the procedure was successful, resulting in the birth of a beautiful female baby. Both the mother and the baby are safe and sound, with no complications arising from the surgery. We discharged the patient at 10.30AM in 7th January 2026.The patient's family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Helpster Heroes and the hospital for their timely and effective care.

Prognosis

With timely LUCS (caesarean section), Aklima Akter can have a safe delivery, ensuring the well-being of both mother and baby despite low amniotic fluid. The procedure will help prevent complications and support a healthy outcome, with good recovery expected. However, if left untreated, oligohydramnios may lead to fetal distress, cord compression, and lack of oxygen to the baby, which can result in stillbirth. The mother may also face complications such as infection or prolonged labor. Therefore, immediate surgical care is essential for their safety.
