Acute appendicitis is an inflammatory condition of the appendix, usually resulting from obstruction of its lumen by fecal matter, lymphoid hyperplasia, or other causes. This obstruction leads to increased pressure, bacterial overgrowth, and inflammation, causing the characteristic progression of abdominal pain from the central abdomen to the right lower quadrant. If not treated promptly, the appendix may rupture, leading to peritonitis, abscess formation, and systemic infection, which can be life-threatening.

Background
Yakubu is a 20-year-old young man whose father died about four(4) years ago,prior his death,he was a retired Government worker leaving behind 8 children,while his mother is a widow and a petty trader. He comes from a family of 9 children, living on low and unstable income, which affects timely access to healthcare. Yakubu is industrious and supports his family, he likes football and aspire to become a professional footballer in the future. He was referred to this facility with the history of abdominal pain that initially started around the umbilical region and later localized to the right lower abdomen over 2 days. This was associated with fever, nausea, and loss of appetite, with the pain becoming progressively severe and persistent, prompting hospital presentation. He was evaluated to have acute appendicitis but couldn't afford the cost of treatment. He was referred to us and a diagnosis of Acute appendicitis was confirmed and surgery was performed successfully, post medication given, he fully recovered and was discharged home with follow up appointment. Yakubu and his parent are grateful to Helpster charity foundation.
Medical history
Yakubu,a 20 year-old young adult, presented with a sudden onset of right lower abdominal pain, nausea, accompanied by vomiting, fever and he became very uncomfortable for the past 24 hours After thorough evaluation and investigation, he was diagnosed with Acute appendicitis. He underwent successful Appendectomy surgery without immediate complications. Due to the nature of his condition, he was admitted for 3 days for close monitoring and post-operative care.He recovered well and was discharged home after 3 days, with a follow-up appointment scheduled for 1 week. Currently, he is doing well, has fully recovered, and has resumed his regular activities. We appreciate the timely intervention by Helpster and the UMD Medical team.
Prognosis
DOCTOR’S OPINION This is a surgical emergency that requires urgent appendectomy Immediate intervention is necessary to prevent rupture and other potential complications.He will be admitted and treatment will commence without delay. PROGNOSIS Is usually good if action is taken at this time that the appendix didn't rupture and his health status will significantly improve all his symptoms will subside.
