Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Isaack is the third-born child in a family of six. He lives with his parents and siblings in a single-room, mud-walled house. His parents are peasant farmers with no stable source of income, making it difficult to meet the family’s basic needs. When well, Isaack enjoys playing football with his friends and dreams of becoming a doctor in the future. His parents learned about Helpster through a chief’s baraza in their community. A few weeks prior, Isaack began feeling unwell, complaining of abdominal pain. His father noticed that his abdomen had become swollen, along with swelling of the legs and puffiness of the face. Initially, his father sought help from a nearby pharmacy and bought over-the-counter pain medication, but there was no improvement. As his condition persisted, he was taken to Siaya County Referral Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Medical history

Isaack as brought to the hospital with complaints of abdominal pain, swollen legs and face. He was diagnosed with acute glomerulonephritis which warranted admission to the ward. Whole in the ward he was administered a number of medications including IV xpen, metronidazole,IV 10mls calcium glucanate. He responded well to medication and was eventually discharged on orals with a follow up clinic booked for him .

Prognosis

Isaack’s condition is serious due to acute glomerulonephritis and severe acute malnutrition, both of which can significantly affect recovery if not promptly managed. He requires close monitoring, appropriate medical treatment, and nutritional rehabilitation. With timely and comprehensive care, his prognosis is generally good, although recovery may take time and requires follow-up to prevent complications and ensure full restoration of health.
