Inusa Adamu was presented with Acute Appendicitis and Intestine Volvulus. Acute Appendicitis is a medical emergency which is caused by the inflammation of the appendix. This usually occurs when the appendix is blocked. It is one of the abdominal medical condition that requires an emergency surgery. Intestinal volvulus is a surgical emergency characterized by twisting of a segment of the intestine around its mesenteric attachment. This results in intestinal obstruction and may compromise the vascular supply to the affected bowel, leading to ischemia, necrosis, perforation, and sepsis.

Background
Inusa Adamu is a 14 year old boy who lives with his parents and other 9 siblings in Laminga village setting in the outskirts of uke town. They live in a modest apartment, mostly huts. His parents are farmers who boast of unstable monthly income of around 40,000. Inusa Adamu is a young and determined young boy who is hardworking. He loves playing with his siblings and dreams of becoming a business man. Inusa was developing stomach pain at intervals. This stomach pain sometimes stays for two to three days. However, his parents never considered taking him to a hospital for proper treatment, rather they depend on herbal mixtures. Recently, the pain came, worse and not relieved by herbs. Inuwa was rushed into our facility where he was diagnosed with Acute Appendicitis. He underwent appendectomy and developed complications. Upon re-examination, Inusa was diagnosed with Intestinal Volvulus or intestinal twist which needed emergency explorative Laparotomy to correct the complication.
Medical history
Inusa Adamu 14 year old patient underwent another emergency appendectomy and explorative laparotomy under general anesthesia. Post operative cared continued with antibiotics and analgesic. Patient was admitted for about 18 days for monitoring and observation. He is recovering well and has since been diacharged.
Prognosis
In the case of Inusa Adamu 14 year old patient,the prognosis is generally good due to timely intervention, he underwent successful surgical management of acute appendicitis and intestinal volvulus. Close postoperative monitoring is required to detect complications such as wound infection, intra-abdominal abscess, adhesive bowel obstruction, or recurrent gastrointestinal symptoms. Where bowel viability was preserved and no extensive bowel resection was necessary, long-term health outcomes are typically excellent. However, delayed diagnosis or treatment resulting in bowel necrosis, perforation, sepsis, or extensive bowel resection may adversely affect recovery and increase the risk of morbidity. The dual presentation of acute appendicitis and intestinal volvulus carries a highly guarded prognosis with substantially elevated risks of bowel ischemia, gangrene, and life-threatening peritonitis, making immediate exploratory laparotomy absolutely vital to reduce morbidity and prevent mortality.
