Tahsina Islam has been diagnosed with perinatal asphyxia (HIE-II) with meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS). This means she experienced a lack of oxygen around the time of birth, which has affected her brain function and overall condition. In addition, she inhaled meconium-stained fluid into her lungs, causing breathing difficulty and low oxygen levels. As a result, she is weak and requires urgent medical care, close monitoring, and supportive treatment to prevent serious complications and support recovery.

Background
Tahsina Islam, a 3-day-old newborn, lives with her parents, sibling, and extended family in a modest home where her father’s income of 8,500 BDT as a Moajjen is barely enough for daily needs, making medical care unaffordable. She is a fragile and innocent baby who is already struggling for survival just days after birth. She developed breathing difficulty due to lack of oxygen at birth and was diagnosed with perinatal asphyxia with meconium aspiration syndrome. Her parents, grandparents, and uncle are deeply worried but feel helpless due to financial hardship. They learned about Helpster Charity through volunteer Al Amin and sought help, as without timely treatment, her condition may worsen, leading to brain damage, severe complications, or even death.
Medical history
Tahsina Islam, a 3-day-old newborn baby girl, was admitted on 30.03.2026 in a critical state with severe infection and convulsions, conditions that posed an immediate threat to her life and required urgent NICU intervention. Due to her fragile condition, she needed intensive monitoring and specialized neonatal care to stabilize her vital signs and prevent further complications. Under the expert supervision of Dr. Md. Waliur Rahman Majumder, she received continuous NICU support and targeted treatment to control the infection and manage the convulsions. After a week of dedicated treatment, Tahsina responded well, and all her medical parameters returned to normal levels. She was successfully discharged on 05.04.2026, marking a life-saving recovery made possible through the generous support of Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes.
Prognosis
With timely hospitalization, supportive care, medications, and close monitoring, Tahsina Islam has a chance of stabilization and recovery. Treatment will improve her breathing, maintain oxygen levels, and support brain function. With proper follow-up, her condition can gradually improve. However, if left untreated, her condition may worsen rapidly, leading to severe breathing failure, brain damage, seizures, or long-term neurological problems. These complications can be life-threatening, so immediate medical care is essential.
