About infections
Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) are infections that affect the airways below the larynx, specifically the lungs and bronchial tubes. This category includes serious illnesses like pneumonia and bronchitis, which cause symptoms such as a severe cough, chest pain, and difficulty breathing. Lower respiratory tract infection is an infection affecting the airways below the throat, including the bronchi and lungs. Malaria is a mosquito-borne parasitic disease caused by Plasmodium organisms that infect red blood cells. Parasitic infection transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes, causing fever, chills, headache, body weakness, vomiting, and anemia. Severe cases may lead to convulsions or coma.

Background
Muhammed is a 4 year child staying with parents and siblings. He is not yet in school school, father is a mechanic. The father was given 2 rooms apartment by his brother to stay for a while because they cannot afford money for rent. They are struggling with finances, they use water from the well and there is access to electricity. They barely save any money within the month as about 1000 is what they can recall as their basic money. Muhammed was well until 3 days ago when he suddenly complained of headache, which was global in spread, the body became very hot that same night. He also developed cough with runny nose a day later with loss of appetite. He gradually lost appetite as the illness progressed. On examination, a 7-year-old male child looking ill and very febrile (38.8o C) not jaundiced and not cyanosed. Not pale, Tachypneic, subcostal and intercostal recessions. He also has tachycardia, no organ enlargement. He was diagnosed with Lower respiratory tract infection and Severe Malaria.
Medical history
Muhammed was well until 3 days ago when he suddenly complained of headache, which was global in spread, the body became very hot that same night. He also developed cough with runny nose a day later with loss of appetite. He gradually lost appetite as the illness progressed. On examination, a 7-year-old male child looking ill and very febrile (38.8o C) not jaundiced and not cyanosed. Not pale, Tachypneic, subcostal and intercostal recessions. He also has tachycardia, no organ enlargement. He was diagnosed with Lower respiratory tract infection and Severe Malaria. Management plan was to be admitted to commence treatment with injection antimalarials, injection antibiotics and other supportive care, patient became stable, fever stopped and no more complaints of headache and runny nose. He was discharged with some oral medications to be returned for follow up after 1 week. The family extended gratitude to Helpster Charity for the medical support.
Prognosis
Muhammed was evaluated and diagnosed with Lower respiratory tract infection and malaria infection which caused quite a significant illness with cough, fever, tachycardia, and difficulty breathing. Patient's symptoms was evident with diagnosis. Prognosis is favorable with early and good diagnosis. For Muhammed, he was admitted and promptly treated and symptoms subsided as soon as management was initiated. No signs of compromise.
