Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Severe malaria is a serious and potentially life-threatening form of malaria caused by malaria parasites affecting multiple body systems. It may present with high fever, extreme weakness, vomiting, severe anemia, difficulty breathing, confusion, seizures, or inability to feed. Prompt treatment is necessary to prevent complications and death. A convulsive disorder is a condition characterized by repeated episodes of seizures or convulsions caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Symptoms may include body jerking, loss of consciousness, staring spells, or temporary confusion. The condition may require long-term monitoring and treatment depending on the cause and severity.

Background
Dorcas is a 14-year-old girl in Grade 10 at a local public day school. She is humble, respectful, hardworking, and known for her dedication to education. She enjoys singing during her free time and dreams of becoming a professional teacher to positively impact her community. She lives with her parents in a rural village where her father, the sole breadwinner, survives through casual labour with an unstable income that barely meets the family’s basic needs. Dorcas was brought to the hospital by her mother with complaints of lower limb weakness, severe joint pains, fever, painful teeth, extreme fatigue, and general body weakness. She appeared seriously ill, weak, unable to walk properly, and struggled with normal daily activities. There was also a history of recurrent convulsions from a young age. After clinical examination and laboratory investigations, she was diagnosed with severe malaria and convulsive disorder. She required admission for treatment and close monitoring. Due to financial hardship, the family sought support from Helpster Charity to assist with her treatment.
Medical history
Dorcas was brought to the hospital by her mother with complains of; joint pain, fever, general body weakness, weakness of lower limb, painful teeth for past one week prior visiting the facility. Based on clinical examination and laboratory investigation, she was diagnosed with severe malaria and convulsion disorder. Was admitted for treatment and management for some days and responded well to medication and discharged home when stabilized and in good condition.
Prognosis
Following assessment and laboratory investigations, Dorcas was diagnosed with severe malaria and convulsive disorder. Doctors noted that her high fever, severe weakness, joint pains, lower limb weakness, and history of recurrent convulsions indicated a serious condition requiring admission and close monitoring. Prompt treatment was initiated, including antimalarial therapy and supportive care. Her condition gradually improved during admission. With continued medication adherence, regular follow-up, and proper management of the convulsive disorder, her prognosis is fair to good, although ongoing monitoring will be important to reduce future complications.
