Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections
Severe malaria with convulsions is a life-threatening form of malaria caused by Plasmodium parasites, where the infection affects the brain and other organs. It presents with high fever, repeated seizures, weakness, vomiting, and impaired consciousness. It requires urgent treatment to prevent brain damage or death. Anaemia is a condition in which the body has low levels of hemoglobin or red blood cells, reducing oxygen supply to tissues. It causes symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, pallor, and in severe cases, difficulty breathing or poor growth in children.

Background
Vallery is a one-year-old girl living with her parents and siblings in a modest two-room mud house with an iron sheet roof. She comes from a low-income family where her mother supports the household through small-scale farming and selling bananas, earning a limited income. Despite these challenges, Vallery is a playful and curious child who enjoys interacting with family members, often smiling and laughing. She is meeting developmental milestones such as crawling, standing, and attempting to walk. The family relies on water from a distant stream, making daily life difficult, but she is raised in a caring environment with hopes for a better future. She was well until one day prior to admission when she developed high fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, and later convulsions. Due to financial constraints, her mother initially sought treatment from a local chemist, but her condition worsened with persistent fever and weakness. She was later referred to Bulondo Health Centre through Helpster support. On arrival, she was diagnosed with severe malaria and anemia. She is currently receiving treatment and is stabilizing under close monitoring.
Medical history
Vallery was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition with severe malaria accompanied by anaemia. She was immediately started on intravenous (IV) antimalarial medication to clear the malaria parasites from her blood. Due to the low haemoglobin levels, she also received a blood transfusion to correct the anaemia and improve oxygen circulation in her body. In addition, she was given IV fluids, fever-reducing medication, and close monitoring by healthcare providers. Nutritional support was also provided to help restore her strength. After a few days of intensive care, Vallery’s condition steadily improved. Her fever reduced, her energy levels increased, and her haemoglobin levels began to return to normal. She was later transitioned to oral medication and discharged in stable condition, with guidance for continued nutrition and follow-up care at home. Vallery’s family expressed heartfelt appreciation to Helpster Charity Organization for their timely financial and medical support, which made her treatment possible. Thanks to this assistance, Vallery is now recovering well and regaining her strength, bringing hope and relief to her family.
Prognosis
Vallery presented with severe malaria complicated by convulsions and anaemia, indicating a serious condition requiring urgent care. She was promptly admitted and started on antimalarial treatment, supportive therapy, and nutritional management. If not treated promptly, severe malaria can lead to complications such as brain damage, severe anaemia, or death. Prognosis is good due to the timely management.
