Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About eyes
Cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye, which causes blurry vision and can make it difficult to see clearly. If not treated, cataracts can lead to complete blindness, making it impossible for a person to see anything. This can severely affect daily life, independence, and quality of life, and in some cases, blindness may become permanent if not treated in time.

Background
Mehedi Hasan is a 13-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a teacher and helping his family overcome poverty. He lives with his parents, elder sister, and elderly grandfather in a small tin-made house, where his father earns only around BDT 9,000 per month as a CNG auto-rickshaw driver, barely enough to cover food, education, and daily expenses. Despite financial hardship, Mehedi is a hardworking and cheerful student, but an eye injury gradually damaged his vision and made it difficult for him to read, attend classes, and enjoy normal childhood activities. The family cannot afford the cost of cataract surgery because they are already struggling to support their children’s education and care for Mehedi’s elderly grandfather. Without timely treatment, the traumatic cataract in his left eye may cause permanent vision loss, affecting his education, confidence, and future opportunities. The family learned about Helpster Charity through Nasima Akhter, Counselor of the Pediatric Unit at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, and Helpster Volunteer Md. Al Amin.
Prognosis
According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Chief Consultant of Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Mehedi urgently requires cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation in his left eye. The doctor explained that timely surgery has a strong possibility of restoring useful vision and helping Mehedi return to normal education and childhood activities. With successful surgery and proper follow-up treatment, he will be able to continue his studies, move independently, and live a healthy and productive life. However, if treatment is delayed due to financial hardship, the damage to his eye may become permanent and the chance of visual recovery may decrease significantly.
