Baby Faith Atieno is a two-day-old infant born to both living parents in a rural village setting. She is the fifth born child in a family of five children. Her mother is a housewife, while her father depends on unstable casual jobs to provide for the family and support the education of the older school-going children. The family faces significant financial hardship and struggles to meet their daily needs. Faith was born on 24/4 through a normal spontaneous vaginal delivery and was initially stable after birth. However, shortly after discharge, she developed fever with a temperature of 38.2°C. A repeat temperature taken 30 minutes later remained elevated at 38.1°C, which raised serious concern considering her young age. The medical team advised immediate admission for close monitoring and treatment due to the risk of severe neonatal infection. However, the father was hesitant and initially declined admission because the family had already exhausted all their financial resources during the delivery process and could not afford further medical expenses. The parents were later introduced to Helpster Charity Organization, which offered support for the baby’s treatment and hospital care.

Baby Faith developed fever with poor breastfeeding 26/4 after delivered on 24/4 through SVD. She was then admitted on IV gentamycin and IV x-pen. Her condition stabilizes and was discharged home on 28/4.

The baby presented with neonatal sepsis, an infection as evidenced by high fever (38.2°C), and poor breast feeding. These findings indicate a severe systemic infection requiring immediate hospital admission for close monitoring and treatment. With prompt and appropriate treatment, Baby Faith has a good chance of recovery. Neonatal sepsis is a critical conditions, particularly in young children, and may lead to complications if treatment is delayed.
