Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Severe pneumonia is a critical infection causing intense inflammation, where air sacs (alveoli) fill with fluid/pus, resulting in severe breathing difficulties, low oxygen levels (hypoxia), high fever, confusion, and potential multi-organ failure. It often requires emergency care or hospitalization for oxygen therapy, intravenous fluids, and antibiotics, with symptoms like cyanosis (bluish skin), rapid heartbeat, and extreme fatigue. Severe malaria is a life-threatening, emergency condition caused by Plasmodium falciparum parasites infecting blood cells, leading to vital organ dysfunction or death, especially if untreated. Common synonyms include cerebral malaria (when affecting the brain) and complicated malaria. Symptoms include coma, severe anemia, convulsions, and respiratory distress.

Background
Neriah is a six-month-old girl living with both her parents and siblings in a single-room mud-walled house without electricity. Her parents are small-scale farmers who depend on farm produce for survival, but the family struggles financially to meet their daily needs. According to her mother, Neriah had been unwell for nearly three days with persistent crying, high body temperature, refusal to breastfeed, and cough. As the illness progressed, she became increasingly weak, restless, and irritable. She cried continuously, had difficulty settling, and appeared to have trouble breathing, causing great concern to her mother. Before she could get the money, Neriah’s condition worsened significantly, forcing her mother to borrow money from a neighbor and rush her to the hospital. On arrival, the child appeared very ill, febrile, wheezing, restless, and in respiratory distress, requiring urgent medical attention. The mother had heard about Helpster Charity Organization through a Community Health Promoter who informed her about possible medical support.
Medical history
NERIAH WAS MANAGED WITH ANTIBIOTICS, ANTIPYRETICS, I.V FLUIDS,ANTIMALARIALS AND OTHER DRUGS AS PER MEDICAL REPORT. SHE RESPONDED WELL WITH THE DRUGS AND HER IMPROVED. SHE BECAME STABLE AND WAS THEN DISCHARGED HOME ON ORAL MEDICATIONS TO COMPLETE AT HOME.
Prognosis
Severe pneumonia carries a high mortality rate, ranging from 20% to over 50%, particularly in elderly patients, those with underlying health conditions, or when complications like septic shock develop. While treatment with prompt antibiotics, antivirals, and, in severe cases, ICU care (including ventilation) can lead to recovery, serious cases may result in prolonged illness or death. Severe malaria is a medical emergency with a high mortality rate, often 10%–50% without prompt treatment. Key indicators of poor prognosis include coma (cerebral malaria), acute kidney injury, severe anemia (hemoglobin <7 g/dL), and acidosis. Immediate intravenous or intramuscular artesunate is required, with mortality risking over 50% if multiple organs are affected.
