A person with an inguinal hernia typically experiences a noticeable bulge or lump in the groin area. This bulge can be painful or uncomfortable, especially when lifting, coughing, or straining. Some individuals might also feel aching or burning sensations around the hernia. In certain cases, the hernia can lead to symptoms like groin pain, a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen, and discomfort.

Background
Ummar is a playful 2-year-old boy who comes from a low-income family and enjoys eating. Six months ago, he started to have swelling in his scrotum that could go away on its own. But recently, it started causing him pain and discomfort and doesn't go away without being moved around. He was brought to this medical facility and found to have an Inguinal Hernia, which needs treatment.
Medical history
Umar was diagnosed with a left inguinoscrotal hernia and was admitted for surgery on December 24, 2023. The herniorrhaphy surgery was performed successfully without any complications, and he was discharged on December 26, 2023. Since then, Umar has been experiencing a significant improvement in his well-being. He feels happier, more playful, and healthier, with no swelling causing him discomfort or pain.
Prognosis
If left untreated, inguinal hernias can lead to complications such as bowel obstruction, strangulation (where blood supply to the herniated tissue is cut off), and significant pain or discomfort. Surgery is the most common treatment for inguinal hernias to repair the weakened area and prevent these potential complications.
