Abu Sufian has been suffering from the passage of loose stools for three days, along with vomiting, anorexia, and abdominal pain. He has also been experiencing fever for three days, is unable to drink, and has low urine output. He has been diagnosed with acute watery diarrhea with gastroenteritis. Acute watery diarrhea with gastroenteritis is the sudden onset of three or more loose or liquid stools within 24 hours, lasting less than 14 days, and is often accompanied by vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and fever. It can lead to severe dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, metabolic acidosis, shock, malnutrition, and, in severe untreated cases, death.

Background
Abu Sufian is an intelligent, polite, and cheerful 8-year-old boy who studies in Class Three and dreams of becoming a pilot one day. He lives with his parents and younger brother in fragile living conditions without a permanent home, while his father struggles to support the family with a very limited income as a day laborer. During a seasonal outbreak linked to poor hygiene and the use of common toilets, Abu became seriously ill with severe diarrhea, vomiting, fever, abdominal pain, and weakness, causing great fear for his parents when his condition did not improve at the government hospital due to medicine shortages. Doctors at New Evercare Hospital later diagnosed him with acute watery diarrhea with gastroenteritis and started urgent treatment and close monitoring. Without proper treatment, severe dehydration and infection could become life-threatening for the child, but the family sought help from a Helpster partner hospital after learning about Helpster Charity through a leaflet.
Medical history
Abu Sufian was admitted on 17.04.2026 with a diagnosis of acute watery diarrhea with gastroenteritis. Upon admission, he was thoroughly evaluated and promptly started on appropriate treatment, including intravenous fluids to correct dehydration, electrolyte replacement, and medications to control vomiting and infection. His vital signs, fluid intake and output, and overall clinical condition were closely monitored throughout his hospital stay. Along with medical treatment, proper nursing care and nutritional support played an important role in his recovery. Gradually, his symptoms improved, his hydration status stabilized, and he was able to take food and fluids orally. With timely and effective management, he recovered well and reached a stable condition. He was discharged on 20.04.2026 with advice for continued care at home and follow-up if necessary.
Prognosis
The doctor has recommended immediate hospital admission for Abu Sufian so that he can receive proper hydration, nutrition, and other supportive care. With timely treatment, his fluid levels can be restored, his weakness will improve, and he will have a strong chance of making a full recovery. Supportive therapy will help his body regain strength and prevent further complications. However, if left untreated, his dehydration may worsen rapidly, leading to severe illness and possible organ failure. Without urgent care, this condition could become life-threatening for such a young child.
