About infections
Pneumonia is a lung infection causing fever, cough, chest pain, fast breathing, and difficulty breathing. Prompt treatment with antibiotics, hydration, and supportive care helps prevent serious respiratory complications. Severe malaria is a life-threatening parasitic infection presenting with high fever, severe weakness, anemia, convulsions, and organ dysfunction. Urgent antimalarial treatment and supportive hospital care are essential for recovery.

Background
Abdullahi is the last child of his parents. The mother is a house wife and the father is a labourer, finding it very hard to feed the family with his timely job. The children have been out of school due to failure to pay school fees. They live in a 2 rooms apartment having a pit toilet. They use well water, there is electricity, they have 15,000 monthly income. Abdullahi is a 3-month-old male infant who was well until 3 days ago when he came down with fever, cough and runny nose. The condition worsened with the body becoming very hot which necessitated the mother to seek help and presented him in our facility. On examination, a very ill and irritable infant with a temperature of 38.3o C, tachypneic, acyanosed, not icteric and not pale. He was evaluated and diagnosed with pneumonia and severe malaria. The family were not having money for hospital bills, they need Helpster Charity to intervene.
Medical history
Abdullahi is a 3-month-old male infant presented with symptoms of malaria. The condition worsened with the body becoming very hot which necessitated the mother to seek help and presented him in our facility. On examination, a very ill and irritable infant with a temperature of 38.3o C, tachypneic, acyanosed, not icteric and not pale. He was diagnosed with pneumonia and severe malaria. Treatment commenced with injection antimalarials, injection antibiotics, iv fluids, oxygen therapy and other supportive care. Child was stable after being in close monitoring and discharged with some orals, he is to be returned for follow up after 1 week. This made the parents happy for saving their child.
Prognosis
Adamu presently quite ill and was diagnosed with Pneumonia and Severe malaria, he was admitted for immediate treatment to prevent severe complications. When pneumonia and severe malaria strike together, they can cause critical complications like severe respiratory distress, profound anemia, and multi-organ failure due to fluid in the lungs and destroyed red blood cells. If left untreated, this dangerous combination can rapidly progress to cerebral injury, metabolic acidosis, septic shock, or death. Prognosis is generally good with early and appropriate treatment. Prognosis is favorable with prompt treatment, but complications will occur if treatment is delayed.
