Baby Adrian K., 1

Adrian is a two-week-old baby living with his teenage mother and great-grandmother. He is the second child of his young mother, whose first pregnancy occurred while she was still in Class Eight. Both children were born out of wedlock. Following the birth of her first child, Adrian’s grandmother chased the young mother and her child away. This left the young mother with no option but to move in with Adrian’s great-grandmother, a poor farmer who now struggles to care for the young mother, Adrian, his one-year-old brother, and other dependents. The family survives through farming and support from well-wishers. Adrian later developed high fever, widespread body rashes, and noticeable skin color changes. His condition worsened rapidly as he became weak, excessively irritable, and unable to breastfeed well. He appeared severely ill, restless, and uncomfortable, causing great concern to his caregivers. His mother sought help from a Community Health Promoter who knew about Helpster Charity Organization and referred them to the facility for medical care. On assessment, doctors recommended immediate admission for close monitoring and treatment of the baby’s condition.

Baby Adrian was admitted on 02/05/2026 with a diagnosis of Neonatal Sepsis. Upon admission, the baby presented with signs suggestive of systemic infection and was promptly started on treatment and close monitoring. His management included administration of intravenous Benzyl Penicillin (Xpen), Intravenous Gentamycin, and Paracetamol as prescribed, alongside supportive nursing care and regular assessment of vital signs and feeding progress. During the course of admission, Baby Adrian responded well to treatment with gradual improvement in the general condition. Fever and symptoms of infection subsided, feeding improved, and the baby remained clinically stable throughout hospitalization. No complications were noted during the treatment period. Following satisfactory recovery and stabilization, Baby Adrian was discharged in good condition on 06/05/2026 with advice for continued follow-up and proper home care.

The baby presented with neonatal sepsis, an infection as evidenced by high fever, and poor breast feeding and rashes on her body especially on the face. These findings indicate a severe systemic infection requiring immediate hospital admission for close monitoring and treatment. With prompt and appropriate treatment, Baby Adrian has a good chance of recovery. Neonatal sepsis is a critical conditions, particularly in young children, and may lead to complications if treatment is delayed.
