One-year-old Ikra Islam has been diagnosed with measles with pneumonia, a serious condition where a measles infection is complicated by a severe lung infection. Measles is causing high fever, widespread rash, weakness, and irritation throughout her body, while pneumonia is affecting her lungs and making breathing very difficult. Due to the combination of these illnesses, she developed severe respiratory distress, cough, vomiting, and weakness, making her condition critical for such a young child. She is currently under close medical supervision and receiving treatment and supportive care to control the infection, improve breathing, and prevent further complications.

Background
Ikra Islam is a gentle and innocent one-year-old baby girl who lives with her parents and two school-going brothers, Farhan and Jihad, in a small overcrowded shelter in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. Her father, Md. Yunus Rari, works as a car driver with a very limited income that is barely enough to provide food, rent, and education for the family, leaving no savings for emergency medical treatment. When Ikra developed high fever, severe cough, body rash, vomiting, and serious breathing difficulty, her worried parents became terrified as every breath became painful for the little child. Doctors at Al-Manar Hospital diagnosed her with measles with pneumonia, a dangerous condition that requires urgent treatment and close monitoring to prevent life-threatening complications. Without proper treatment, the severe lung infection and respiratory distress could rapidly worsen and put her life at serious risk, but the family found hope after learning about Helpster Charity through a medical outreach program in Geneva Camp.
Medical history
Following the vital support from Helpster, Ikra Islam was admitted to Al-Manar Hospital on May 3, 2026, at 10:29 PM to address severe complications from measles. During her four-day hospital stay, she received urgent conservative treatment, including IV antibiotics, high-dose Vitamin A, and consistent respiratory support through nebulization. Her condition was successfully stabilized, and on May 7, 2026, she was referred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital for specialized isolation and continued management. Thanks to this timely intervention, Ikra is now on a clear path toward recovery, with her respiratory distress managed and her symptoms showing steady improvement. This critical care has given her the chance to overcome a life-threatening infection and return to a healthy future.
Prognosis
Dr. Salma Afroz at Al-Manar Hospital diagnosed Ikra with Measles with Pneumonia and initiated urgent conservative treatment, including IV antibiotics, respiratory nebulization, and high-dose Vitamin A. The clinical advice is an immediate referral to the Infectious Diseases Hospital or DNCC Hospital for specialized isolation and continued management of her severe respiratory distress. Prognosis: With timely isolation and specialized care, Ikra is expected to recover and regain her health; however, if left untreated, these complications can become life-threatening for a child of her age.
