Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About pulmonology

Chronic respiratory distress in infants from birth or early life may indicate serious conditions such as congenital heart disease, chronic lung disease (bronchopulmonary dysplasia), airway malformations like tracheomalacia, or early-onset asthma. These conditions can cause persistent fast breathing, poor feeding, wheezing, and fatigue. Without proper diagnosis using tools like chest X-ray, echocardiography, and oxygen monitoring, the exact cause may be missed. If untreated, ongoing low oxygen levels can lead to poor growth, developmental delay, pulmonary hypertension, heart failure, or death.

Thank you for saving this life!

Background

Ahmed Ibrahim is a seven-month-old baby boy who lives with his family in Kirikasamma, a Christian community where his father serves as a local pastor and also teaches at a primary school. His mother is a homemaker who cares for Ahmed and his two older siblings. She heard about Helpster, a health outreach or referral service, that she decided to take action. She traveled from Kirikasamma to ADARI Hospital in Birniwa, a significant distance, hoping to finally get help for her baby. Since his first few weeks of life, baby Ahmed has suffered from breathing much faster than normal, even while he is fast asleep. He struggles so much to catch his breath that he often has to stop breastfeeding, turns away from his mother, and makes a painful wheezing sound. His breathing gets noticeably worse whenever he catches a mild cold or cries, leaving him too tired to crawl or move like other babies his age. Because his father has also been very sick, Ahmed's worsening breathing problem was sadly not prioritized until now.

Medical history

Ahmed has not yet received a proper diagnosis or treatment because his family cannot afford medical care. His mother sits beside him at ADARI Hospital, exhausted and frightened, watching him struggle to breathe during feeds. She is unable to pay for essential investigations such as chest X-ray, and oxygen monitoring, and is praying for support from Helpster Charity Foundation. With assistance, Ahmed can undergo proper evaluation to determine the cause of his condition and receive appropriate treatment. With timely care, he is expected to improve, feed normally, gain weight, and develop like other children. His mother remains hopeful and deeply grateful for any support that can give her child a chance at a healthy life.

Prognosis

Ahmed is an 7-month-old infant with chronic respiratory distress since early infancy, presenting with fast breathing at rest, feeding difficulty, wheezing, easy fatigability, reduced activity, and worsening symptoms with mild infections or crying. He requires urgent evaluation including chest X-ray, echocardiography, oxygen saturation monitoring, and full clinical assessment to identify the underlying cause. Prognosis depends on the diagnosis; treatable conditions may improve significantly with early intervention. Without diagnosis and treatment, he is at risk of chronic hypoxia, failure to thrive, developmental delay, and possible death, making timely evaluation and management essential.
