Ryan H., 3

Ryan Henry is a three-year-old boy born to a teenage mother who sadly died during childbirth due to complications. The family was unable to take her to hospital because of extreme poverty. Ryan, who was born out of wedlock while his mother was still in school, was left under the care of his grandmother and aunts in a large extended family living in a rural village. The family struggles financially and depends on the grandfather, who works in plantations and earns very little to support the household. During a Sunday outreach organized at Withur Village Church by Helpster Charity Organization in partnership with Awasi Catholic Mission Health Centre, Ryan was brought for treatment by his aunt and grandmother. On assessment, he appeared very weak, tired, and severely ill due to persistent fever. He was unable to stand or walk and looked exhausted and inactive, causing concern to the medical team. The outreach targeted poor and vulnerable families needing medical support. Following evaluation, Ryan required urgent admission for immediate medical care, and the facility intervened promptly to ensure he received treatment and close monitoring.

Ryan was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and malaria. He has been being on antibiotics, and management done on him by medics. Ryan now feels good and can now move about with the compound without feeling pain. They were scared that they will be asked to make some co payment because of all that happened before where they could request to be discharged home for inability to pay. After marked improvement was observed, he was discharged from the hospital on referral for further treatment under HELPSTER CHARITY ORGANIZATION

Ryan presented with a severe, life-threatening illness, having both severe pneumonia and severe malaria, compounded by convulsions, high fever, difficulty in breathing and difficulty in walking nor standing. This combination placed him at high risk, especially given at his young age. Immediate admission and aggressive management were necessary.
