Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About eyes

Cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye, which causes blurry vision and can make it difficult to see clearly. If not treated, cataracts can lead to complete blindness, making it impossible for a person to see anything. This can severely affect daily life, independence, and quality of life, and in some cases, blindness may become permanent if not treated in time.

Background

Yasin Hossain is a 7-year-old boy who dreams of studying, playing with friends, and living an independent life despite the hardships he faces. He lives with his divorced mother and elder brother in a small tent house, where his mother works as a housemaid and earns only around BDT 5,000 per month, barely enough to provide food, shelter, and education for her two sons. Yasin is a cheerful and determined child, but the cataract in his right eye continues to limit his ability to study, move confidently, and enjoy a normal childhood. His mother is unable to afford the cost of surgery while struggling to support the family alone after being abandoned by her husband. Without timely treatment, Yasin may permanently lose vision in his right eye, severely affecting his education, independence, and future opportunities. The family learned about Helpster Charity through Nasima Akhter, Counselor of the Pediatric Unit at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, and Helpster Volunteer Md. Al Amin.

Prognosis

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Chief Consultant of Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, timely cataract surgery can significantly improve Yasin’s vision and help him return to normal educational and social activities. The doctor explained that childhood cataract treatment is highly time-sensitive because delayed intervention can permanently damage visual development. With successful surgery and proper follow-up care, Yasin will have the opportunity to continue his madrasha education, move independently, and live a healthier and more confident life. However, if the surgery is delayed further, his right eye may suffer irreversible blindness, severely affecting his future and quality of life.
