Acute appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix, usually caused by obstruction or infection. It presents with sudden right lower abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and sometimes mild fever. If untreated, it can lead to appendix rupture, peritonitis, and severe infection. Treatment involves prompt surgical removal of the appendix (appendectomy), along with hydration, pain management, and monitoring.

Background
Yau is a 19-year-old young man from a financially disadvantaged family. He is disciplined, hardworking, and often supports his parents with manual labor. He hopes to continue his education and become an architect. The family's income is 23,000, with no electricity, pit latrine, and community borehole. He was brought to UMD, with a 2 days history of right iliac fossa pain,loss of appetite, vomiting and low grade fever.The pain started initially,around the peri-umbilical region, which he ignored. Over time, the pain localized to the right lower abdomen and became severe and persistent. This was associated with persistent vomiting.He became weak and unable to carry out his routine activities. As symptoms worsened significantly, he was brought to the hospital where he was seen, evaluated and diagnosed with Acute appendicitis. He had a successful surgery and post operative treatment without complication.
Prognosis
The patient was presented with classical signs requiring urgent appendectomy. Delay increases risk of rupture and sepsis. Prognosis is good with early treatment. Emergency surgery is the best option to save him from potential complications.This will improve his wellbeing and also brings joy to his parent.
