Tasfia Akter is a 2-year-old girl who lives with her parents and elder brother in a small tin-made house in rural Noakhali. Her father works as a day farmer on other people’s land and earns only around BDT 9,500 per month, which is barely enough to provide food and basic necessities for the family, making the cost of eye surgery completely unaffordable. Despite her vision problems, Tasfia is a cheerful and affectionate child who brings joy to her family, but her parents became increasingly worried as she struggled to recognize faces and objects clearly. The family is already struggling to support her brother’s education and meet daily expenses, leaving no possibility of arranging the costly treatment she urgently needs. Without timely surgery, her congenital cataracts may lead to permanent blindness, severely affecting her development, education, and ability to live an independent life in the future. The family learned about Helpster Charity through Nasima Akhter, Counselor of the Pediatric Unit at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, and Helpster Volunteer Md. Al Amin.

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Chief Consultant of Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Tasfia urgently requires bilateral cataract surgery under general anesthesia with intraocular lens implantation to restore useful vision in both eyes. The doctor explained that because she is still very young, early surgical intervention offers a strong possibility of significant visual recovery. With proper surgery, follow-up care, and visual rehabilitation, Tasfia may be able to develop normal vision, attend school in the future, and live independently like other children of her age. The doctors remain hopeful that timely treatment can completely transform her life. If left untreated, she may become permanently blind and dependent on her family throughout her life.
