Gillian is a 7-year-old boy in Grade 3 living with his parents and siblings in a rural village. He is cheerful, respectful, and enjoys playing football, storytelling, and helping with simple household chores. Gillian dreams of becoming a doctor so he can help sick people in his community and improve his family’s future. His family lives in a two-room mud house without electricity and depends on water from an untreated well. His father works as a water supplier at a local hotel, earning about KSh 1,300 monthly, which is barely enough to support the family’s needs. Gillian was brought to Bulondo Health Centre with chest pain, difficulty breathing, persistent cough, and wheezing. According to his mother, he had experienced similar breathing problems since early childhood, but his condition worsened significantly eight days before admission. Due to financial hardship, the family delayed seeking medical care until they learned about a medical inreach at the facility. After assessment, the hospital linked the family to Helpster Charity, which facilitated free treatment and admission.

Gillian was admitted to the hospital with complaints of difficulty in breathing, persistent cough, wheezing, and chest pain due to asthma. Upon medical assessment, he was diagnosed with an asthma attack and immediately started on treatment to help open the airways and improve breathing. During admission, Gillian received bronchodilator medications through nebulization, antibiotics where necessary, oxygen support, and other supportive treatment to stabilize his condition. He was closely monitored by the medical team, and his breathing gradually improved as the wheezing and chest tightness reduced. He also received health education on asthma management and the importance of avoiding triggers such as dust and smoke. Through the support of Helpster Charity Organization, Gillian was able to access free medical treatment and hospital care despite the family’s financial difficulties. This assistance ensured that he received timely treatment and proper follow-up care. After significant improvement and stabilization, Gillian was discharged home in good condition with medication and follow-up instructions.

Gillian was diagnosed with status asthmaticus and severe pneumonia after presenting with severe breathing difficulty, wheezing, chest pain, and persistent cough. His condition required urgent admission for oxygen support, nebulization, antibiotics, and close monitoring due to the risk of respiratory failure. Following treatment, his breathing is improving, wheezing has reduced, and he is now more stable. Continued medication adherence, follow-up care, and avoidance of asthma triggers will be important in supporting recovery and preventing future severe attacks.
