About infections
Typhoid is a highly contagious bacterial infection caused by Salmonella Typhi and spread through contaminated food or water, leading to prolonged high fevers, gastrointestinal distress, and potential intestinal perforation if left untreated. Conversely, malaria is a life-threatening, non-contagious parasitic disease transmitted through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes, characterized by acute, cyclic episodes of shaking chills, high fever, and flu-like illness. Meanwhile, peptic ulcer disease is a localized, non-infectious structural disorder where painful sores develop on the protective inner lining of the stomach or upper small intestine, primarily caused by chronic H. pylori bacterial infection or prolonged use of NSAID pain relievers rather than acute external transmission.

Her father works as a hostel manager in a school and earns about forty thousand naira monthly. Together they live in single room apartment. Sandra is smart, lively and intelligent young girl. She loves reading novels and attending church programs. She dreams of joining the movie industry when she grows up. Her dream is to become an actress. she suddenly developed a very high body temperature, later started having some seizures, speaking unnecessarily and making gestures that nobody could understand.She was then rushed to the facility where she was attended to with promptness. She was stabilized and treated with antimalarial and antibiotics
Medical history
Sandra Jacob, an eleven year old girl was treated for Typhoid, Malaria and Peptic Ulcer Disease. She was admitted for two days. Treated with normal saline, metro infusion,anti malarial injection, omeprazole, etc. The child tolerated the treatment well. There was no noticeable reaction. The child has recovering well and fit for discharge and has since been discharged home with some oral medications.
Prognosis
Sandra Jacob was presented with Typhoid, Malaria and Peptic Ulcer Disease. For an eleven year old, the prognosis is good, provided that the diagnosis is made early and the patient receives prompt, appropriate, and complete treatment with good medical care. The concurrent presence of typhoid, malaria, and peptic ulcer disease significantly multiplies the risk of life-threatening complications, including severe internal bleeding, gastrointestinal perforation, systemic infection (sepsis), and profound anemia. However, the prognosis becomes guarded if treatment is delayed, medications are not completed, complications develop. Close follow-up is recommended to ensure complete resolution of symptoms, monitor treatment response, and detect any complications early. Overall, with timely medical intervention and appropriate supportive care, a full recovery is expected.
