Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections
Severe pneumonia is a serious lung infection causing inflammation of the air sacs, leading to fever, cough, chest pain, fast or difficult breathing, and reduced oxygen levels, requiring urgent medical care. Acute bronchiolitis is a viral infection of the small airways in the lungs, commonly in young children, causing cough, wheezing, fast breathing, and feeding difficulties, which may lead to breathing distress.

Background
Chrisandus is a 4-year-old boy and the second born in a family of two children, with both parents alive. The family relies mainly on his mother, who sells second-hand clothes (mutumba) and earns less than KSh 3,000 per month to support basic household needs. They live in a single-room rented house, share a pit latrine with neighbours, and obtain drinking water from a community tap, conditions that may affect hygiene, nutrition, and overall health. After two days at home, Chrisandus developed chest pain, restlessness, rapid breathing, and high fever, indicating a serious illness requiring urgent medical attention. Due to financial constraints, his mother was initially unable to afford treatment but took him to Mechimeru Model Health Centre for help. Upon arrival, she explained their situation to the nurse in charge, who assured her that Chrisandus would receive free treatment under Helpster Charity until his condition improved, enabling him to access timely care despite economic hardship.
Medical history
Chrisandus’ treatment for Acute Bronchiolitis would involve supportive medical care aimed at improving his breathing and relieving symptoms caused by the lung infection. At the health facility, healthcare providers would closely monitor his breathing, temperature, and oxygen levels while providing oxygen therapy if needed to help him breathe more comfortably. He may also receive medications to reduce fever, fluids to prevent dehydration, and nutritional support to help restore his strength. Since acute bronchiolitis commonly affects young children, Chrisandus would be observed carefully to ensure that his condition does not worsen. With timely and proper treatment, he is expected to gradually recover, breathe normally again, regain energy and appetite, and return to his usual healthy activities without serious long-term complications.
Prognosis
Chrisandus presented with fever, chest pain, restlessness, and difficulty breathing and was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and acute bronchiolitis. He required urgent admission, oxygen therapy, antibiotics, and close monitoring due to respiratory distress. Financial limitations contributed to delayed presentation, leading to worsening of symptoms before care was sought. Following initiation of treatment, his vital signs have stabilized and there is clear clinical response to therapy, with reduction in fever and improved respiratory effort. He remains under observation, and his condition is steadily improving with a positive clinical trajectory noted.
