Jannatul Ferdous has been diagnosed with an infected ranula of the floor of the mouth. A ranula is a fluid-filled swelling that develops under the tongue, and in her case it became infected, causing pain, swelling, and fever. As the swelling increased in size, it made it difficult for her to eat, swallow, and breathe comfortably, requiring urgent medical care and close monitoring. Without timely treatment, the infection and swelling could continue to worsen, leading to serious and potentially life-threatening complications.

Background
Jannatul Ferdous is a cheerful and courageous 6-year-old girl who loves going to school despite the hardships her family faces. She lives with her widowed mother and other family members in the overcrowded Geneva Camp, where the family's total monthly income is only BDT 8,000, making it impossible to afford the surgery and hospital care she urgently needs. She has been suffering from a painful infected swelling under her tongue that has made eating, swallowing, and even breathing increasingly difficult, and without timely treatment, the infection could spread to nearby tissues, block her airway, and become life-threatening. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a medical outreach camp in Geneva Camp, where Helpster volunteer Monir identified her condition and guided them to seek treatment
Medical history
Jannatul was admitted to Al-Manar Hospital on May 16, 2026, where medical teams immediately started her on intravenous antibiotics and pain medications to control her severe infection. Once her condition was stabilized, Dr. Nasim Tanver successfully performed the vital cyst excision and marsupialization surgery under general anesthesia on May 18. Following a smooth post-operative recovery, she completed a four-day hospital stay and was safely discharged on May 20, 2026. She returned home with a detailed care plan consisting of prescribed antibiotics, healing syrups, and a specialized mouthwash to ensure proper tissue healing. The treatment was a complete success, and Jannatul is now resting comfortably in Geneva Camp, entirely free of pain and finally able to eat, talk, and smile normally again.
Prognosis
According to the treating doctor, Jannatul requires intravenous antibiotics, pain-relieving medicines, good oral hygiene, and surgical removal or drainage of the ranula after the infection is controlled. This treatment is expected to eliminate the infection, reduce the swelling, relieve her pain, and restore her ability to eat, swallow, and breathe normally. However, if left untreated, the infection may spread to the surrounding tissues or bloodstream, while the swelling may continue to enlarge and block her airway, making breathing difficult and potentially becoming life-threatening. Timely treatment and proper follow-up are essential to ensure a full recovery and prevent serious complications
