Hypoglycemia is a condition where a baby’s blood sugar level becomes dangerously low, affecting the body and brain’s ability to function properly. It may cause weakness, poor feeding, reduced activity, difficulty breathing, or seizures if untreated. A neonatal eye infection is an infection affecting a newborn baby’s eyes, causing redness, swelling, discharge, or irritation. If not treated early, it can lead to serious complications, including damage to vision. Both conditions require prompt medical attention and close monitoring.

Background
Baby Daisy Chelangat is a young child from a humble and vulnerable family background living in a remote village with her 16-year-old mother, who is currently a Form Two student in a public secondary school. Despite her young age, Daisy’s mother is determined to continue her education while caring for her baby. The family depends entirely on Daisy’s grandmother, who is the sole provider through a small-scale business that earns very little income. The family struggles to meet basic needs, including food, proper healthcare, and adequate nutrition for both mother and child. Baby Daisy Chelangat was born with complications, including inability to breastfeed, eye infection, weakness, reduced activity, and difficulty maintaining normal body function. Due to her unstable condition, she required oxygen support shortly after birth. Medical evaluation confirmed hypoglycemia and an eye infection. Because of the seriousness of her condition, she was admitted to the Newborn Unit (NBU) for close monitoring, treatment, and specialized medical management.
Medical history
Baby Daisy Chelangat, was with complications of not able to feed, eye infection and general body weakness. She was diagnosed with hypoglycemia and eye infection. Was put on i.v fluid RL , 10%D and xpen . Was admitted in NBU for some days and responded well to medication and discharged when stabilized and in good state.
Prognosis
Baby Daisy was admitted in a fragile condition with poor breastfeeding, reduced activity, eye infection, and low blood sugar levels requiring oxygen support and specialized newborn care. She was diagnosed with hypoglycemia and neonatal eye infection and was started on treatment, feeding support, monitoring, and medication. With continued treatment, proper nutrition, follow-up care, and monitoring, her prognosis is fair to good, and recovery is expected.
