Erick O., 5

Erick is a 5-year-old boy and the fourth born in a family of five children. He attends nursery school in a nearby village and lives with his grandmother, siblings, and cousins after his parents separated and his mother left home when he was three years old. The family depends on the grandmother, an elderly small-scale farmer, who struggles to provide food, education, and healthcare for the many children under her care. Due to financial hardship, one of Erick’s older sisters dropped out of school and now helps support the family through casual work. Erick enjoys playing with toys and dreams of becoming a driver in the future. Erick was brought to the health facility by his grandmother together with two sisters who had similar complaints. They appeared weak, unwell, and had wounds on their legs that had persisted for nearly three months. Despite seeking treatment at several dispensaries, their condition had not improved, and lack of money limited access to further care. Following assessment at our facility, Erick was found to require urgent admission and treatment was started immediately.

On 18th May, Erick was admitted at the children's ward after diagnosed with cellulitis a condition having septic itchy wounds that had spread all over his leg which required immediate admission. On admission, He was administered with IV floxapen , IV metro, brufen which he started immediate that he positively responded. On 22nd May he was ready for home discharge on medication and advised on drug adherence, cleaning and dressing the wounds as per doctor prescription.

Erick was admitted in a sickly condition with persistent fever, widespread wounds on the leg, and generalized weakness. Following clinical assessment and investigations, he was diagnosed with cellulitis, a serious condition caused by infection leading to inflammation and skin manifestations. His condition required immediate admission, close monitoring, antibiotics, intravenous fluids, and supportive treatment to prevent further complications. Without urgent medical intervention, the infection could have progressed and become life-threatening. His prognosis is favorable
