Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About bones & joints

A right proximal tibia and fibula fracture involves a break in the upper portions of your shinbone (tibia) and calf bone (fibula), often occurring near or extending into the knee joint. Septicemia, commonly known as blood poisoning, is a serious, life-threatening infection that occurs when bacteria or other germs enter the bloodstream and multiply, spreading throughout the body.

Background

Ashton is the only child of young parents who recently completed school. The family lives together with his grandmother in a small two-room mud-walled house, where the grandmother is elderly and unemployed. His parents support the household through occasional casual labour on nearby farms, depending on availability of work. According to his mother, Ashton had been well and active until the day of the incident. While she was outside washing clothes, Ashton was playing inside the house. She later heard him cry and found his left leg trapped under a table while he was lying on the floor. After freeing him, he initially settled, but later that evening he became increasingly irritable, cried persistently, and developed swelling of the injured leg. By the following morning, the pain and swelling had worsened significantly, prompting his mother to take him to a nearby health facility for evaluation. After clinical assessment, he was referred to Siaya County Referral Hospital for further management and specialized care.

Medical history

Ashton was brought to the hospital with complaints of pain in the legs, hotness of body. He was found to be having a fracture and septicemia, this warranted admission to the ward. In the ward back slab was done above the knee to realign the fractured bone. He was also administered gentamicin, morphine fortified ringers among other drugs to which he retained. He was eventually discharged on orals, and back slab removed to recover at home. A follow up clinic was booked for him .

Prognosis

The prognosis Ashton a 1-year-old child with a right tibia and fibula fracture complicated by septicemia is guarded but potentially favorable with prompt and appropriate treatment. The fracture is expected to heal well with immobilization and orthopedic management. Ashton received prompt medical intervention, with the infection managed, with proper orthopedic care and his young age he is expected to make a full recovery
