Siam Islam is a precious three-month-old baby boy who lives with his parents and his 9-year-old sister, Sadia, in a small rented house, bringing hope to his family despite their overwhelming hardships. His father is the family's only earning member, working as a day laborer with a monthly income of approximately BDT 6,000, which is barely enough to provide food and other basic necessities, while the family is already struggling to pay for the ongoing treatment of Siam's sister, who is battling cancer and serious kidney disease. After spending their limited savings on Siam's NICU care and his sister's medical treatment, they have no financial means to afford the urgent Anti-VEGF injections and specialized eye care needed to save his vision. Despite these challenges, his parents remain determined to give both of their children a chance at a healthy future. Without timely treatment, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) may rapidly progress to irreversible retinal detachment, permanent blindness in both eyes, lifelong disability, and the loss of his opportunity to grow, learn, and live an independent life.

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Siam urgently requires Anti-VEGF (Avastin) injections in both eyes, followed by regular retinal examinations to monitor his recovery. The doctors believe that timely treatment can successfully stop the abnormal blood vessel growth, support normal retinal development, and preserve Siam's eyesight, allowing him to grow up with functional vision and enjoy a normal childhood. However, if treatment is delayed because of financial hardship, the disease may progress rapidly, resulting in irreversible retinal damage and permanent blindness. Early intervention offers Siam the best opportunity for a healthy and independent future.
