Malaria is a potentially life-threatening infectious disease caused by parasites transmitted to humans through the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Once inside the human body, the parasites multiply in the liver and then infect red blood cells, causing recurrent cycles of symptoms, including high fever, chills, fatigue, and, in severe cases, organ damage or failure.This stage of the disease is defined by the evidence of vital organ dysfunction. Pneumonia - Pneumonia is an infection of one or both of the lungs caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. It is a serious infection in which the air sacs fill with pus and other liquid. Myalgia - Myalgia describes muscle aches and pain, which can involve ligaments, tendons and fascia, the soft tissues that connect muscles, bones and organs.

Annette is a 20-year-old girl who lost her parents six years ago. Since then, she had to stop going to school and has been struggling to make ends meet. She enjoys cooking and gardening, and she's skilled at farming. Recently, she went to the hospital because she was experiencing neck pain, chest congestion, and shivering with chills. Although she tried taking pain-relieving medicine, it hasn't helped much. In fact, her pain and discomfort have only gotten worse over time.
Medical history
Annet went to the hospital because she was experiencing neck pain, chest congestion, and shivering with chills. Although she tried taking pain-relieving medicine, it hasn't helped much. In fact, her pain and discomfort have only gotten worse over time. She was diagnosed with malaria which had presented as myalgia. She was put on medication as an inpatient and discharged a few days later to continue taking oral medication at home. She was reviewed 3 days after discharge and confirmed to have healed well.
Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences. Pneumonia should be treated with antibiotics. If left untreated, pneumonia may lead to the permanent lung damage, respiratory failure, septicaemia (infection entering blood stream and causing sepsis), pleural effusion (accumulation of fluid in the space between the lung and chest wall, which can make breathing difficult), and other life-threatening complications.
