Background
Tiffany, a 4-month-old baby girl, was taken to the hospital because she had a cough and was wheezing when she breathed. She found it hard to breathe, especially during breastfeeding, and also had a fever. Tiffany is usually a very happy and laughing baby, and her family really missed her cheerfulness while she's been sick.
Medical history
Tiffany, a 4-month-old baby girl, was brought to the hospital due to a persistent cough and wheezing, particularly noticeable when she breathed. She struggled with breathing, especially during breastfeeding, and had developed a fever. Normally a joyful and laughing baby, her family missed her usual cheerfulness during her illness. While admitted in the in-patient, Tiffany was given medication and responded positively to the treatment.
Prognosis
Complications of bronchiolitis may include low oxygen in the body and pauses in breathing, which is most likely to happen in babies born too early. Bronchiolitis can lead to serious complications, including apnea, dehydration, and cyanosis. The child may become more susceptible to other infections like pneumonia. While antibiotics aren't effective against viruses, they may be prescribed if there's a bacterial infection. Sometimes, bronchodilator medications are used to open the airways.
