Bravin S., 16

Bravin is a 16-year-old boy, the firstborn in a family of four children, and a Grade 8 pupil. He lives with his single mother, who separated from his father and now solely supports the family through casual work. The income is unreliable and insufficient to meet their basic needs. They live in a single-room mud-walled house and walk long distances to fetch water. Despite these hardships, Bravin remains determined to complete his education and build a better future. Two weeks before admission, Bravin developed a persistent cough, severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, high fever, headache, dizziness, repeated vomiting, and progressive weakness. His condition worsened steadily until he became too weak to carry out his normal activities. Due to financial hardship, his mother initially bought over-the-counter medicines, but there was no improvement. When he became critically ill, she rushed him to the health facility, where clinical assessment and investigations confirmed a serious illness requiring admission for close monitoring and treatment. A concerned friend later directed the family to Helpster Charity through Bulondo Health Centre, enabling Bravin to access the specialized medical care he urgently needed.

Bravin was diagnosed with severe pneumonia accompanied by anaemia and was admitted to Bulondo Health Centre for urgent medical care. Through the support of Helpster Charity Organisation, he received timely treatment, including intravenous antibiotics, oxygen therapy, antipyretics, nutritional support, haematinics, and a blood transfusion where necessary. His condition was closely monitored until his fever subsided, breathing improved, and his haemoglobin levels stabilized. After several days of treatment, Bravin recovered well and was discharged in stable condition with medications, nutrition advice, and follow-up appointments.

Bravin has been diagnosed with severe pneumonia complicated by anemia, a serious condition requiring urgent inpatient care. The lung infection has significantly impaired his breathing, while the anemia has reduced the oxygen-carrying capacity of his blood, increasing the strain on his body. He is receiving intravenous antibiotics, supportive care, oxygen therapy as needed, and close monitoring, with blood transfusion considered if clinically indicated. His prognosis is cautiously favorable, provided he responds well to treatment, completes the prescribed therapy, and attends follow-up after discharge.
