Layek Islam has been diagnosed with Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) with mild dehydration along with Respiratory Tract Infection (RTI). AGE caused frequent diarrhea and vomiting, which led to dehydration, weakness, and loss of energy in the child. At the same time, the respiratory infection caused cough and cold symptoms that further affected his health and comfort. Due to his young age and worsening condition, he required hospitalization, fluids, medicines, and close medical monitoring to support his recovery and prevent further complications.

Background
Layek Islam is a gentle and innocent 17-month-old baby boy who lives with his parents in a small tin-made house under difficult financial conditions. His father works as an auto driver and earns only around 6,000 BDT per month. When Layek became seriously ill with frequent diarrhea, vomiting, cough, cold, and dehydration, his condition gradually worsened and he became very weak, forcing his worried parents to admit him to the hospital. The family came to know about Helpster Charity through Helpster Volunteer Tanjila Shahin Ema . Without proper medicines, fluids, and hospital care, his dehydration and infection could become severe and life-threatening for such a young child.
Medical history
Layek Ahmed was admitted to Seba Hospital on 22 May 2026 with frequent diarrhea, vomiting, cough, cold symptoms, and mild dehydration. He received treatment under medical care for several days and was kept under close observation in the hospital. During his hospitalization, he was provided with medicines, fluids, and supportive care by the doctors and nurses. His condition gradually improved with treatment, and he was discharged on 27 May 2026 with medical advice. At the time of discharge, the patient’s family expressed their sincere gratitude to Helpster Charity and the Seba Hospital team.
Prognosis
According to the doctors, Layek Islam is expected to recover well if he continues receiving proper hospitalization, hydration, supportive therapy, and close monitoring. The treatment will help restore lost fluids, improve his strength, control diarrhea and vomiting, and reduce his cough and cold symptoms. Careful monitoring is especially important because young children can become weak and dehydrated very quickly. However, if left untreated, his dehydration and infection could worsen rapidly, leading to severe weakness, breathing problems, serious complications, and potentially life-threatening conditions.
