Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About bones & joints
A mid humeral (upper arm) fracture in a newborn is a break in the mid-shaft of the humerus. It is usually a result of birth trauma during delivery, particularly with difficult or rapid births. Treatment relies on conservative, non-surgical immobilization, and the prognosis is excellent with no long-term disability.

Background
Baby Faith is the only child of her mother and lives with her mother, grandmother, uncle, and aunt in a modest two-roomed mud-walled, grass-thatched house. Her mother is a teenage student who relies entirely on her grandmother for support. The grandmother, who is the family's sole provider, earns a living through subsistence farming. Baby Faith was delivered through an emergency Caesarean section after her mother was diagnosed with polyhydramnios, a condition characterized by excessive amniotic fluid during pregnancy. Following delivery, healthcare providers noted tenderness and swelling of her left arm. An X-ray examination confirmed a mid-shaft humeral fracture, and she was subsequently admitted to the Newborn Unit (NBU) for specialized management under the orthopaedic and trauma team.
Medical history
Baby faith was born with tenderness on her hand, she was diagnosed with a mid humeral fracture, which warranted admission to the new born unit for management, there traction was placed on her hand and administered paracetamol syrup. Baby faith responded well to treatment and was eventually discharged on orals, a follow clinic was booked for her for review of her hand .
Prognosis
A newborn diagnosed with a mid-humeral fracture generally has an excellent prognosis. Neonatal fractures heal rapidly due to the high bone remodeling capacity in infants. With appropriate immobilization, gentle handling, pain management, and regular follow-up, union of the fracture is usually achieved within 2–4 weeks without significant complications. Most affected newborns regain full function of the affected limb and experience normal growth and development. Long-term disability, deformity, or impairment is uncommon, provided there are no associated neurovascular injuries or underlying medical conditions. Continued monitoring is recommended to ensure satisfactory healing and limb function.
