Xaviour is a 5-year-old boy and the lastborn in a family of seven children. He lives with his father in a small two-room mud house after his mother left the family when he was only nine months old. His father works as a cane cutter earning about KSh 2,000 monthly, which is insufficient to meet the family’s needs. Despite poverty and hardship, Xaviour remains humble and hopeful. He attends PP1 at a local school and dreams of becoming a nurse in the future. Xaviour was brought to the hospital after four days of severe ear pain, high fever, and continuous pus discharge from his left ear. The illness began as mild pain but worsened because the family could not afford early treatment. On examination, he appeared weak, feverish, exhausted, and in severe pain. Investigations confirmed suppurative otitis media with conductive hearing loss. Due to the seriousness of his condition and the family’s financial challenges, he was admitted for urgent treatment and close monitoring, supported by Helpster Charity.

Xaviour’s treatment for Otitis Media would typically involve a medical examination followed by antibiotics if the infection is bacterial, pain relievers to reduce discomfort, and advice to keep the ear dry and clean. In some cases, doctors may also recommend warm compresses, nasal decongestants, or follow-up visits to monitor healing and prevent complications. After treatment, the expected outcome is usually positive, with reduced ear pain, improved hearing, and disappearance of fever or discharge within a few days to weeks. If treated early and correctly, most patients recover fully without long-term problems, although severe or repeated infections may require further medical care.

Xaviour was diagnosed with suppurative otitis media complicated by conductive hearing loss after presenting with severe ear pain, fever, and persistent pus discharge.
