Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections

Severe pneumonia is a life-threatening lung infection causing extensive inflammation, fluid-filled air sacs, and impaired oxygen exchange. Symptoms may include high fever, severe cough, chest pain, rapid breathing, low oxygen levels, confusion, and extreme fatigue. Common causes include bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Risk factors include advanced age, weakened immunity, chronic diseases, and smoking. Complications can include respiratory failure, sepsis, lung abscesses, and death. Prompt diagnosis, hospitalization, oxygen therapy, antibiotics or antivirals, and supportive care are often required to improve outcomes and survival.

Two days later, the body became very hot with runny nose and coughing. She was diagnosed with severe Pneumonia. Patient's family are poor and in need of help because they cannot afford the medical bills, that is why they contacted Helpster Charity for help.

Medical history

Maryam is 5-month-old infant whose illness started with watery greenish stooling about seven days ago. Two days later, the body became very hot with runny nose and coughing. On examination, a 5mo female infant, warm to touch (37.8 degree Celsius), unicteric, acyanosed with blocked nostrils and noisy breathing. The subcostal and intercostal depressions observed. Patient was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. Maryam was admitted and commenced treatment on injection antibiotics and some supportive medications of which recovery was rapid. Patient was discharged when she was stable after three days.

Prognosis

Maryam presented with severe cases that lead to respiratory failure, sepsis, long-term lung impairment, or death, particularly in high-risk individuals. With early and appropriate medical care, Maryam will recover fully as management of patient was initiated as soon as possible. The prognosis of severe pneumonia is guarded and highly dependent on rapid intervention, carrying a 20% to 50% mortality rate if the patient requires intensive care or mechanical ventilation. However, survival and long-term lung recovery improve significantly when appropriate intravenous antibiotics and oxygen support are started within the first few hours of presentation.
