Background
Fatema Sultana is a 12-month-old baby girl who lives with her parents and three older siblings in a rural coastal community of Cox’s Bazar. Her father earns a modest and irregular income by driving a rented auto-rickshaw, and the family's earnings are barely enough to cover food and daily necessities, making medical treatment unaffordable. When Fatema developed severe pneumonia with high fever and breathing difficulties, she became weak, irritable, and unable to feed properly, causing great concern for her family. As the youngest and most vulnerable child in the household, she requires urgent medical care and close monitoring to recover. Without timely treatment, her breathing problems could worsen rapidly, leading to severe complications and putting her life at serious risk. The family learned about Helpster Charity through Helpster Volunteer Abu Sayeed.
Medical history
Fatema Sultana, a 12-month-old female child, was admitted to Orion Hospital on 26.04.2026 through Helpster volunteer Nishan with complaints of severe cough with breathing difficulty, high-grade fever for seven days, reduced feeding, and irritability. After admission, clinical evaluation and investigations confirmed Severe Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) with Hypoxemia. She received hospitalization with close monitoring, oxygen therapy for low oxygen levels, antibiotics and other medications, correction of fluids and electrolytes, and nutritional support. Her condition was regularly monitored by the medical team throughout the hospital stay. Fatema remained under treatment for seven days and showed gradual improvement. She was discharged on 03.05.2026 in stable condition with medications, care instructions, and follow-up advice. The treatment expenses were fully supported by Helpster Charity, and the family expresses sincere gratitude to Helpster, its volunteers, and the hospital team for their kind support and care.
Prognosis
Doctors have have advised immediate hospital-based treatment including oxygen support, antibiotics, fever control, and close monitoring to stabilize his condition. With timely and proper medical care, there is a strong chance of recovery, and he can gradually return to normal health as the infection clears and breathing improves. However, if left untreated, the infection may rapidly worsen, leading to severe breathing failure, spread of infection in the body, and life-threatening complications, which may even result in death.
