Mim Akter is a bright and determined 13-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a schoolteacher and helping her family escape poverty. She lives with her parents and siblings in a small overcrowded shelter in Geneva Camp, where her father is the only earning member, working as a camp cook with a monthly income of only BDT 9,000, making it impossible for the family to afford the cost of her urgent surgery, biopsy, and treatment while meeting their daily needs. She has developed a painful neck abscess with enlarged lymph nodes, and without timely treatment, the infection could spread to her bloodstream, cause severe sepsis, damage nearby tissues, or, if tuberculosis is confirmed, progress to widespread disease and other potentially life-threatening complications. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a medical outreach camp in Geneva Camp, giving them hope when they had no other way to save their daughter.

Mim Akter was admitted to Al-Manar Hospital Ltd. on May 24, 2026, at 02:25 PM to address her severe neck infection. On May 25, 2026, she underwent a successful surgical excision, incision, and drainage under total intravenous anesthesia to completely clear out the submandibular abscess. Thanks to the timely operation, she only had to stay in the hospital for two days and was safely discharged on May 26, 2026, with a comprehensive multi-day post-operative medication regimen. Mim is now comfortably recovering back at her camp home, free from the debilitating pain and swelling that had previously derailed her daily life and education.

According to the treating doctor, incision and drainage of the neck abscess, regular wound dressing, and lymph node biopsy are essential to remove the infection, identify its underlying cause, and prevent further complications. If tuberculosis is confirmed, anti-tuberculosis (Anti-TB) medication will be started promptly. With timely treatment, the infection is expected to resolve, the swelling will gradually disappear, and Mim can regain her strength, appetite, and return to her normal daily activities. However, if left untreated, the infection may spread to surrounding tissues or the bloodstream, leading to sepsis, destruction of neck tissues, breathing difficulties, permanent complications, or other potentially life-threatening conditions.
