Yvonne is a young mother who lives with her spouse and child in a one-roomed mud-walled house. She dropped out of school due to financial difficulties and is a known epileptic. She has no source of income and depends entirely on her spouse, who survives on occasional casual jobs to support the family. According to Yvonne, she had been relatively well until she began experiencing lower abdominal pain and frequent urges to urinate. Despite these symptoms, she did not seek medical attention due to financial constraints. One morning, while attending her routine antenatal clinic appointment, she suddenly developed an epileptic seizure that required immediate medical intervention. After she was stabilized, she disclosed that she had been experiencing persistent abdominal pain, frequent urination, burning sensation during urination, general body weakness, loss of appetite, and episodes of dizziness for several days. She also reported feeling increasingly fatigued and unwell, making it difficult to perform her normal daily activities. Given her pregnancy, history of epilepsy, and worsening symptoms, her condition was considered potentially serious and required further evaluation. Following clinical assessment, she was admitted for close observation, investigations, and comprehensive medical management to ensure the wellbeing of both mother and baby.

Yvonne was brought to the hospital with complaints of abdominal pains , smelly urine . She was diagnosed with UTI in pregnancy and admitted for further management. She was administered clotrimazole, paracetamol, among other drugs. She responded well to medication and was eventually discharged on orals, at discharge she was also seen by the mental health team for advise and counselling.

Pregnancy complicated by epilepsy and UTI carries increased risks including fever-triggered seizures, maternal dehydration, preterm labour, pyelonephritis, fetal distress, and possible effects related to poorly controlled seizures. However, with timely treatment of the urinary tract infection, seizure control, and multidisciplinary management involving obstetric and medical teams, Frida Yvone is expected to recover well and continue with pregnancy safely.
